The family made tofu until a few years ago, so their noren has a navy blue background with a single square of white tofu on it. Their first noren was made of linen cloth, but when the actor Fumiyo Watanabe visited Katsuyama several years ago for a television broadcast, he said, "If you use momen (cotton) for your noren, that tofu will be momendofu." (Momendofu is one of the varieties of tofu.) The family has used cotton for its noren ever since. This is their third noren with a tofu design, and it waves over a doorway slightly off the main street.
